Lawrence St. Development
The project entails redevelopment of owner-occupied housing on two adjoining Lawrence Street sites that are presently vacant; numbers 175 and 177. Number 175 is controlled by the City of Hartford Redevelopment Agency. Number 177 is privately owned. A two-family home will be designed for and constructed on each of these sites.
The intent of the project is to provide affordable, site-specific and contextually appropriate homes to improve the residential community of Lawrence Street. The homes are designed to respect the historic character of the neighboring city blocks, while the layouts of the floor plans reflect the needs of a modern family.
This site is the last city-owned parcel remaining on Lawrence Street. The project will fill this open gap between structures, visually improve the streetscape, and add valuable owner-occupied housing inventory to the City of Hartford. The houses themselves
The two homes will be constructed in succession, the first on the privately-owned site upon approval from city planning and zoning, the second on the city-owned lot upon approval from the redevelopment authority.
The city-owned lot, number 175, lacks sufficient frontage to meet present zoning requirements. The neighboring privately owned site, number 177, will apply for a lot spilt to grant an additional 5 feet of side yard to meet the 50 foot frontage requirement.
